Burke Place Bed And Breakfast

Burke Place Bed & Breakfast is a member of the Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Bed and Breakfast Assoc., and the Professional Association of Innkeepers International.

The property was purchased by Martin Boots from the government by Land Title in 1823. After many years as farm ground, the Benjamin Burke family purchased the land & in 1898 started construction of the existing house. The house was finished in 1900. The property was sold in 1919 to the Charles Burke family. At this time the wrought iron fence was added, the east side porch was built, a small swimming pool was added, & the house staircase was reversed.

In 1947 the John Thompson family purchased the property. The Thompsons had the lawn professionally landscaped & in 1957 completed a major kitchen remodeling project & added the two car attached garage. The carriage house that sits on the back corner of the property was used by the early owners to store their carriages. A cobblestone drive ran from the carriage house to the front corner of the property where the original entrance gate still stands.

The property stayed in the Thompson family until 1989. The current owners purchased the home in 1994 & opened the bed & breakfast in 1999.

Room 1 is a large "sunken bedroom" furnished with antiques, two twin beds, beautiful beveled & stained glass window, antique chandelier, & a one-person whirlpool tub/shower @ $95 per night + tax.

Room 2 is an average sized bedroom with light blue walls, antique queen-sized bed, & a leaded stained glass light fixture. The bath has a corner, frosted glass shower @ $75 per night + tax.

Room 3 is a large room decorated in white, green, & burgundy with a queen-sized antique bed & lots of windows. The bath has a regular tub/shower combination @ $85 per night + tax.

Room 4 is an average sized room, decorated with flowered wallpaper. The bed is an antique white-iron queen-sized bed. The sunflower bathroom has a one-person whirlpool tub/shower combination @ $85 per night + tax.

All guest bedrooms have cable TV w/remote control, telephones, soft white terry-cloth robes, private baths, rooms are tastefully decorated, & are located on the second floor. Guests are welcome to enjoy complimentary softdrinks, snacks, & coffee or tea, available in the main floor dinning room.

A hearty cooked gourmet-style breakfast is served in the dinning room around the large dinning table. Guests can enjoy their early morning coffee, afternoon tea, play cards, read, or just relax in the enclosed sunroom just off the living room; or guests can sit outside on the large covered side porch & be closer to nature. The lawn and garden areas usually have something blooming from early Spring through late Fall.

In warm weather, guests can enjoy a restful afternoon in the 4 person lawn glider. You can also enjoy the breeze on the covered veranda, or pick a ripe tomato from the garden.

For the antique lovers, Marion & nearby towns have several antique stores, flea markets, ice cream shops, & home decor type stores.

Golfers have their choice of at least three worthy golf courses, Arbor Trace, Shady Hills, & Walnut Creek. We have restaurants that range from everyday fastfood types to family sit-down establishments, buffets, Mexican, Chinese, Italian, & many other varieties to fit your dinning pleasures.

For the health enthusiast, Marion has a delightful five-mile paved river walkway as well as the Cardinal Greenway. For fun, we have the new Splash Water Park & Matter Park. We are just a short drive to either the Mississinewa or Salamonie Reservoirs for boating, fishing. water skiing, or picnic outings. We are a short 15 minute drive from Fairmount the home of the famous actor James Dean. Guests can visit the James Dean Gallery & the Fairmount Historical Museum.  

Fairmount is also the hometown of Garfield the Cat's creator, Jim Davis. Guests can always find something to do while in the Marion area. We have a multi-screen movie theatre complex, the Marion Civic Theater, & a public library along with the Grant County Historical Museum. The library is well known for its established geneology study/reference area.  Marion boasts an indoor shopping mall, several car shows, local festivals, two universities, & a local community college. We are just a short drive to the Elwood "Jim Rice" glass-blowing house or a lapidary studio. Visit nearby communities such as Wabash, Kokomo, Gas City, Jonesboro, Fairmount, Swayzee, Sweetser, Converse, or Muncie.

Cancellations must be made seven (7) days prior to the arrival date to avoid a one night's cancellation fee.  Where pre-paid deposits are required, a $15 cancellation processing fee will be charged.
