Located about 25 minutes south of Indianapolis, it is convenient to the airport and city attractions including the Brickyard 400, Indianapolis 500, sports events and museums. It is 12 miles north of Columbus, famous for its architecture. Situated in the historic town of Edinburgh, it is surrounded by farmland and wineries. It is close to golf, camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, picnicing, and horse shows.
As you enter the foyer, you immedately are drawn to the tiger oak parquet floors with inlaid borders of mahogany and cherrywood. An astounding heavily carved newel post anchors the winding staircase with Black Walnut banisters. As you ascend, you pass the marble niche and the vibrantly colored stained glass window.
Downstairs, the Library is open for your reading pleasure or to use as a base of operations for business. Wireless internet service is available throughout the house. The tall arch over the bay window is crowned by the head of Athena in gold. The ornate grill over the decorative fireplace is flanked by arched bookcases.
Across the Crimson Hall, you will enter the Presidential Drawing Room. Here you may curl up in front of the gas fireplace, or play a parlor game, make a puzzle, or feel free to play the piano. Enjoy the comeraderie of other guests.
Candlelight breakfast is served in the dining room. The furnishings here are primarily from a Chicago estate. The original gasolier, converted to electric, remains as do many others in the house. Should you prefer, you may be served breakfast in the homey kitchen with its brick wall, wood floors, and view of the parklike back yard. Breakfast consists of several courses, and you will not leave hungry!
The carpeted Forsythia Room on the first floor is convenient to the dining room and other common rooms. It has a full antique oak bed, table and chairs, desk, and television. The bathroom is large and contains the clawfoot tub and pedastal sink original to the house. The beadboard is crowned by bordered wallpaper.
Upstairs, the Sage and Rose Suite is a Victorian wonder. The Sage Sitting Room is filled with antique and reproduction wicker. The decorative fireplace is covered with the ornate iron cover dating back to its coal burning origens. It is flanked by bookcases, and houses a TV.
The large bathroom contains a tiled Victorian shower. The walls retain the original plaster with historic treatment. (It looks like tile, but isn't.)
Tucked away in the corner lies the Rose Bedroom. It is furnished with dark wood antiques, many of them left in the house. The "museum" displays are of old and antique clothing. Do not be alarmed if you have company. We are told the ghost who lives in this room is shy, and she enjoys the peace and quiet. The bed is of carved oak. The room has a dresser, nightstand, desk, table and chairs, and built-in armoire.
