Built in 1884 as a Victorian Foursquare by William Ruddick, our home was reconfigured in 1924 by his daughter Lizzie as a Greek Revival with that definite antebellum look. We bought the property in 1996 and began a restoration process that took 9.5 years. We did open after the first two years, but had many projects left to complete. Our four guest rooms are all spacious, and decorated with antiques. Every room has a private bath, one with a clawfoot tub/shower, another with a jetted tub/shower. Every room also has cable and high speed internet especially for our business customers. Our breakfasts are served in the formal dining room with crystal, china, and silver, and of course, candlelight. Details of our breakfast menus can be found on our website.
Our website is also a great place to get a taste of our gardens; because we have a full city block of 2.3 acres, we have much of interest to the gardener or to someone who just wants to relax in the shade of the porch, the trees, or a pavilion. Eight water features add their own music to the rose garden and all of the annual and perennial beds.
Columbus is a fine town by any measure, whether you are passing through and just staying for a night, or planning a longer stay. Our modern architecture is ranked #6 in the United
States, unusual for a twon of 39,000 compared to Chicago, New York, Washington, and the like. We have tours every day and twice on Saturday. We offer a multitude of golf courses, shopping experiences, and festivals of all kinds (more at www.columbus.in.us). We are also a gateway to Brown County state park (15 miles west), to Nashville, Indiana (little Nashville we call it), a town devoted to arts and crafts shops and the Little Nashville Opry. We are also the eastern gateway from the interstate to Indiana University in Bloomington, 40 miles west of us. Business or pleasure, Columbus is a great place to be.
